In Focus: The Philippines

One of the goals of this blog is for us and others to get to know more about different cultures, specifically those of the Philippines and Chile. 🙂 With that, I am about to introduce you to my home country

The Philippines is a tropical country situated in Southeast Asia. It is a sovereign archipelago consisting of 7,107 islands categorized mainly under three geographical divisions – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Here are some fast facts:

Capital: City of Manila

Land Area: 300,780 square kilometers

Population: 96 million

Average Temperature: 78°F/25°C

Form of Government: Democractic Republic [Officially known as the Republic of the Philippines]

Head of State: President

Religion: Predominantly Roman Catholic. Christian, Muslim, Buddhist

Official Languages: Filipino (based on predominant dialect Tagalog) and English [We were colonized by both Spain and the United States of America and these colonizations made huge impact on our languages!]

Currency: Philippine Peso (PhP)
