Philippines: Superwednesday

Hi everyone! 🙂

This post is like an online message to Caro, my reply. (Hi Caro!) To answer her question if the academic calendar in the Philippines is the same as Chile’s, it isn’t. 🙂 Our summer falls on April and May (that’s the peak season for beach resorts and other getaways!) Beginning March (aaaack!), the graduation month, we are starting to experience the summer heat! A lot of people are now complaining that it’s getting hoooot. It is also noticeable that TV commercials for refreshments and cold items like ice cream increased their exposures. Summer is undoubtedly around the corner! (I feel you, summerrr! And I’m not very excited!)

The academic calendar in the Philippines has long been following the June-March scheme. However, a lot of universities are adopting the new calendar starting this year. From June as the start of the school year, they are moving the resumption of classes to August as an effort to align with foreign counterparts.

Personally, I experienced how difficult it was when our academic calendar wasn’t aligned yet. When I moved back to the Philippines from Dubai in 2001 for third year high school, I didn’t get to have my summer break. Right after my final exams in Dubai, I took my flight to the Philippines and started school in less than a week! This whole change of calendar scheme is definitely beneficial to students from abroad who wish to move back and vice versa. 🙂
